AB Dragons Roaches: Dubia Care and Breeding Dubia roaches are smaller than orange headed roaches and discoid roaches, which is why they’re regarded as all around feeder roach species. Dubia roaches move slower than orange headed or discoid roaches, but not as shy as them. Dubia roaches have the softest exoskeleton among the three roach species, that makes them an excellent food for small lizards and arachnids. But adults dubia roaches are not as meaty as other adult roach species. Dubia roaches are not able to climb smooth plastic or glass, that is why they are easy to work with. Dubia roaches are sexually dimorphic, and they are easy to distinguish at a glance, with males having full wings, while adult females having small wing stubs. Experts highly advise the usage of extra males as feeders, once the dubia roach colony has been established. Excess male roaches compete for food and space with female roaches as the colony matures. Female roaches live longer than male roaches. For enclosure, you can use glass aquarium, rubber type plastic bin, plastic critter keeper or garbage can. Cardboard egg flats can be placed in the bin or tank which serve as roaches hiding places. In order to allow debris to fall to the bottom of the roaches enclosure, stack the cardboard egg flats vertically. Avoid using substrate for cleaning the bedding because it will only make cleaning more difficult. Aside from that, baby roaches will only have a hard time getting out of the bedding they hide in. Dubia roaches enclosures don’t smell, requiring less attention to housekeeping.

Feed your dubia roaches with high protein content food such as roach diet or cat food, and you may also give fish flake pellets, whole grain cereal or baby cereal. They also like sweets especially in breakfast like breads or cereals. You may offer fresh fruits and vegetables such as apples, carrots and oranges at least once a week. Be sure to remove any fruits or vegetables that are not eaten a day or two to avoid mold-formation.

It is best to supply water gels instead of plain water to prevent stinks. Humidity is raised inside the enclosure using a dish of water gel, so misting won’t be necessary. Dubia roaches breed better in moist environments. Keep the feeder roaches at a minimum of sixty-eight degrees, because they are tropical roaches, always needing warmth.
